For decades, education leaders have struggled to improve the quality of teacher professional development, yet despite the best efforts of districts and outside providers, teacher PD too often does not lead to improved teacher effectiveness or student achievement.
Sanger Unified School District has risen to the challenge by creating Connected Professional Learning – a strategic combination of (1) rigorous, comprehensive curricula and assessments, (2) content-focused, expert-led collaboration, and (3) frequent, growth-oriented feedback – to ensure teachers continuously improve their ability to teach all students at an elevated level.
This session will trace the district’s journey from traditional professional development to Connected Professional Learning, detailing the evolution of professional learning practice across the district, the ways Sanger Unified has reorganized resources to support that evolution, and the crucial role that effective collaboration with the local teacher’s union has played in the district’s journey.
